David Sabella-Mills - Vocal Performance




Nationally recognized as a Master Teacher in Musical Theater and Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal Techniques, David has served on several university faculties including NYU, Tisch School of the Arts, CAP21 Studio; The New School University's Mannes College Prep. Division; and the State University of New York, College at Purchase and College at Newpaltz. He has been a guest teacher at Ann Reinking's Broadway Theater Project in Tampa, Florida. And, has conducted vocal master-classes and musical theater workshops at the University of Las Vegas and California State (Fullerton).

He currently serves as the president of the The New York Singing Teacher's Association and is and active member of The National Association of Teacher's of Singing. He has also conducted Master-Teacher seminars on Musical Theater “Mixed Belt” and “Super Belt” techniques throughout the United States, teaching other voice teachers how to apply belt techniques safely and effectively, using advanced knowledge in vocal anatomy, physiology and acoustics. He is a member of AEA, SAG, and AGMA.









On Broadway: He originated the starring role of “Mary Sunshine” in the 1996 revival of CHICAGO, with Bebe Neuwirth, Ann Reinking, and Joel Grey. He returned to the Broadway company, to appear with Melanie Griffith as Roxie Hart. And, continues to return as needed for the Broadway and National Touring Companies. He is also scheduled to appear in the new Broadway musical by John Kander and Fred Ebb, The Visit, with Chita Rivera.

Off-Broadway: He starred in the New York International Fringe Festival production of Kiss and Make Up, a musical written especially for him by Kevin Hammods and Mark Weisser. He also appeared in Hexed in The City, Foxy, Watch Your Step, So Long 174th Street and O'Henry's Lovers (NYMT fest)

Other Musical and Theater credits include: A Little Night Music, Seesaw, Godspell, Merrily We Roll Along, The Gingerbread Lady, and The Lisbon Traviata.

Voiceover work: Several network television cartoon series, including Peter Pan and the Pirates for FOX and Teacher’s Pet for Disney.

In Classical Music: He has won several prestigious voice competitions including The Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition, The Metropolitan Opera Eastern Regional Auditions, and The New York Oratorio Society Competition at Carnegie Hall.



He starred in the title role of Giulio Cesare with Virginia Opera (available on Koch International Label), L’ incoronazione di Poppea (Utah opera), and Die Fledermaus (Lincoln Center). He has appeared numerous times at both Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as a principle soloist in such works as the Bach, B-Minor Mass, Handel’s Messiah, and Peter Schikele’s comical Three Bargain-Counter Tenors.  And, toured internationally with the now legendary La Gran Scena Opera Company.

In Media: Mr. Sabella has appeared twice on the Rosie O'Donnell Show and has been featured in national magazines such as Opera News, In Theater, Entertainment Weekly, A&U (Cover), OUT, and Next. His personal caricature was unveiled in June of 1998 and hangs in the world famous theater restaurant, Sardi's.
